Well now, you wanna know about them Russian Blue cats in Chicago, huh? I’ll tell ya what I know, but don’t expect no fancy words from me. I ain’t no city slicker.
First off, these cats, they ain’t your everyday alley cats. They kinda special, ya know? People say they’re “rare,” which I guess means you don’t see ‘em everywhere like them tabby cats. Russian Blue cats. That’s what they call ’em.

Now, if you’re lookin’ to get yourself one of these blue-ish fellas, you got a couple of ways to go about it. You can try and “adopt” one, which is like takin’ in a stray, but from a shelter or somethin’. They gonna want some money for it, though. Heard tell it’s anywhere from a hundred to three hundred dollars. That’s a lot of money, if you ask me. But they say that money goes to pay for the cat’s shots and stuff, keepin’ ‘em healthy.
- Adoption Fees: $100 – $300
- Breeder Prices: $400 – $1000
Or, if you got money to burn, you can go to one of them “breeders.” These folks, they raise these cats on purpose, like farmers with chickens. But these cats cost a pretty penny. I heard tell it can be four hundred, even a thousand dollars! Can you believe that? For a cat! They say the price depends on how fancy the cat’s family is, or how well-known the breeder is. Sounds like hogwash to me, but that’s what they say.
Now, about the cats themselves. They’re mighty pretty, gotta say. That blue-gray fur, it’s somethin’ special. And they got these green eyes that just stare right through ya. But more than just looks, they’re supposed to be real sweet cats, especially to their own people. They might be a bit shy with strangers, but once they get to know ya, they’re all about cuddlin’ and such. At least that’s what I heard. Never had one myself, mind you.
If you’re in Chicago and wantin’ one, you gotta do some lookin’. There’s places online, like “Adopt a Pet,” where you can see if there’s any Russian Blue kittens or cats needin’ a home near you. They even got pictures, so you can see what they look like before you go traipsin’ all over town. And they’ll send you emails if a new cat shows up, which is mighty handy.
Sometimes you see ads for cats from other places too, like Tennessee or Indiana. But that’s a long way to go for a cat, if you ask me. Better to find one closer to home, in Illinois. There are Russian Blue cats for adoption and also Russian Blue kittens for sale, so you have to decide what fits your budget and what you are looking for. Seems like some folks are looking to sell them, and there’s a lot of talk about adoption too. So you gotta figure out what you wanna do.
I seen some ads sayin’ there’s kittens for sale, but they ain’t “purebred.” That means they ain’t got no fancy family tree, I guess. But they’re still cute, and probably cheaper. And there’s older cats too, if you don’t want the hassle of a kitten. Kittens are cute but they are also a handful, always gettin’ into mischief.
So, if you’re set on gettin’ a Russian Blue cat in Chicago, you got some options. Just remember, it ain’t gonna be cheap, especially if you go to a breeder. But if you’re lookin’ for a sweet, pretty cat, it might be worth it. Just make sure you got the time and the money to take care of it proper. Cats ain’t toys, ya know. They need food, and water, and a warm place to sleep. And a whole lotta love, too.

And don’t forget, you can look all over Illinois for these cats. Not just Chicago. Maybe you’ll find one in a smaller town, where the prices ain’t so high. Or maybe you’ll find a good ol’ mutt that looks just like a Russian Blue, but costs a whole lot less. That’s what I’d do, if I was lookin’ for a cat.
