So, I’ve got this cat, Mittens. Super cute, fluffy as heck, but come nighttime, she’s a tiny, adorable terror. Zoomies at 3 AM, knocking stuff off shelves, the whole nine yards. I love her to bits, but my sleep schedule was taking a major hit. I tried everything: playing with her more before bed, making sure she had enough food, even those plug-in pheromone diffuser things. Nothing worked. She’d still be bouncing off the walls when I was trying to get some shut-eye.
Then, a friend of mine, who’s way into natural remedies, suggested I look into CBD for cats. I was skeptical. I mean, CBD? For a cat? It sounded a bit out there, even for me. But, lack of sleep was messing with my head, so I figured, what the heck, let’s give it a shot.

First thing I did was a deep dive into the internet. Turns out, there’s a bunch of info out there about CBD for pets. It’s supposed to help with anxiety, pain, and, yes, even sleep issues. I read a ton of articles, watched some videos, and even found a few forums where pet owners were talking about their experiences. Some people swore by it, saying it turned their hyper cats into chill little cuddle bugs. Others said it didn’t do much. Pretty typical internet stuff, right?
Finding the Right Product
After feeling somewhat more informed, I started looking for CBD products specifically designed for cats. It’s important to note that you can’t just give your cat the same CBD oil you’d use for yourself. There can be ingredients in human CBD products that are harmful to cats, like certain essential oils. Also, the dosage is totally different.
- Checked the Ingredients: I made sure to look for products with simple, natural ingredients. No artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives.
- Looked for Third-Party Testing: This is super important. It means an independent lab has tested the product to verify the CBD content and make sure it’s free of contaminants like pesticides and heavy metals.
- Opted for Broad-Spectrum or Isolate: These types of CBD don’t contain THC, the stuff in marijuana that gets you high. You definitely don’t want your cat getting high!
I finally settled on a brand that seemed reputable. They had all the right certifications, good reviews, and even a little “kitty-approved” seal on the bottle, which I thought was cute. I ordered a small bottle of their lowest strength CBD oil, just to be safe.
The Experiment Begins
When the CBD oil arrived, I was a little nervous. I followed the dosage instructions on the bottle, which were based on my cat’s weight. It was just a few drops added to her wet food. Mittens, being the picky eater she is, sniffed her food suspiciously at first. But after a few moments, she started eating like normal. Whew! That was the first hurdle cleared.
Results
The first night, I didn’t notice any difference. She was still her usual nighttime self, running around and causing a ruckus. I was a little disappointed, but I knew it might take some time to see any effects. I kept giving her the CBD oil with her dinner every night.
Then, after about a week, I started to notice a change. She was still playful in the evenings, but the late-night craziness seemed to be dialing down. Instead of sprinting through the house at 3 AM, she was more likely to be curled up on the foot of my bed, or even on her own little cat bed, fast asleep.
It wasn’t a dramatic, overnight transformation, but it was definitely noticeable. She was calmer, more relaxed, and most importantly, she was sleeping through the night. And guess what? So was I! I felt like a new person, finally getting some decent rest.

It’s been a few weeks now, and the positive changes have continued. Mittens is still her sweet, loving self, just with a bit less nighttime energy. She seems more content, and I’m definitely more rested. I’m really glad I gave CBD a try. It’s been a game-changer for both of us. Now, we can both sleep like babies.
I still keep an eye on her, of course, to make sure she doesn’t have any adverse reactions. I’m not a vet, so I’d definitely recommend talking to yours before trying CBD for your cat, especially if they have any underlying health conditions. Each cat is different, so what worked for Mittens might not work for every cat. But for us, it’s been a real lifesaver. Or should I say, sleep-saver!
