Today I went to Camp James A. Garfield. It was a pretty cool place, but it took a while to get there.
First, I had to drive for a good chunk of time. I mean, it wasn’t exactly around the corner. The roads were okay, some were a bit bumpy, but nothing too crazy. After driving for what felt like forever, I finally saw the sign for the camp. Phew! Made it!

Once I got there, I had to find a place to park. The parking lot was surprisingly full! I guess a lot of people had the same idea as me. I circled around a few times before I finally spotted an empty space. Squeezed my car in there, it was a tight fit, but I managed.
After parking, I grabbed my stuff from the car and started walking towards the main area. I saw a bunch of buildings, some looked old, some looked new. I followed the signs, and tried to find the main office.
I walked into what I thought was the office and asked for some information. The person there was nice and gave me a map and a schedule of events. It looked like they had a lot of stuff going on.
- Historical Reenactments
- Nature Trails
- Museum Exhibits
I decided to check out the museum first. I walked over to the building and went inside. It was full of old artifacts and information about the history of the camp. Pretty interesting stuff, actually. Spent a good amount of time looking around in there.
Next, I wanted to see one of the historical reenactments. I checked the schedule and walked to the area where it was happening. There were people dressed up in old uniforms, acting out historical events. It was pretty cool to watch and they were really into it, felt real!
After the reenactment, I decided to take a walk on one of the nature trails. I followed the path, and it was really peaceful out there. Lots of trees, birds singing, you know, the usual nature stuff. It was a nice break from all the historical stuff.
Finally, after a long day of exploring, I headed back to my car. I was tired, but it was a good kind of tired. I learned a lot about the history of the camp and got some exercise too. Overall, a pretty good day. Camp James A. Garfield is definitely a place worth checking out if you’re into history or just want to spend a day outdoors.
