Alright, so I’ve been thinking about getting a British Shorthair for a while now. They’re just so darn cute with their round faces and fluffy fur. I mean, who could resist, right? So, I decided to take the plunge and start looking for a cattery. Figured it’s better to get one from a reputable breeder than just anywhere.
First thing I did was hit up the internet. I typed in “British Shorthair cattery” and, boy, did I get a ton of results. It was a bit overwhelming, to be honest. I spent hours going through different websites, looking at pictures of adorable kittens, and reading about each cattery’s breeding practices. I wanted to make sure I was supporting a place that really cared about their cats’ health and well-being, not just some kitten mill, you know?

I narrowed it down to a few catteries that seemed legit. They had good reviews, detailed information about their cats, and clear health guarantees. Then came the hard part – contacting them. I sent out a bunch of emails, introducing myself and asking about their available kittens. I also asked a lot of questions about their breeding practices, like how often they breed their queens and what kind of health testing they do. Some of them never replied, some gave me one-sentence answers. This is frustrating!
- Waiting game: Most of the catteries had waiting lists, which was a bummer. I guess good things come to those who wait, but I’m not the most patient person, haha.
- Visiting time: I managed to schedule visits to a couple of catteries that had kittens available soon. This was the exciting part! I got to meet the little furballs in person and see how they interacted with each other and their mom.
- Choosing the one: It was tough to choose just one kitten, they were all so precious. But one little guy, a blue British Shorthair, just stole my heart. He was the most playful of the bunch and kept coming up to me for cuddles.
- Paperwork and payment: After I made my decision, there was a bunch of paperwork to fill out. Contracts, health guarantees, registration papers – the whole shebang. And of course, I had to pay for the little guy. It was a bit pricey, but hey, you can’t put a price on love, right?
Finally, the day came to bring my new buddy home. I was so excited, I could barely sleep the night before. I picked him up from the cattery, got a crash course in kitten care from the breeder, and then we were off on our new adventure together. Honestly, he was so small and cute, and the breeder was so kind and passionate.
It’s been a few weeks now, and I’m totally smitten. He’s settled in nicely and is already the king of the house. Getting a British Shorthair from a cattery was definitely the right decision. It was a bit of a process, but totally worth it in the end. I love him so much!
