Okay, folks, let’s talk about how I finally got my hands on a gorgeous Russian Blue cat here in NYC. It was a journey, let me tell you!
My Russian Blue Adventure Begins
First, I scoured the internet. I mean, I really went deep. I looked at every shelter, every rescue, every breeder listing within, like, a 100-mile radius. It was exhausting. I learned real fast which websites were outdated and which ones looked legit.

Narrowing Down the Options
After all that searching, I made a list. A very organized list. I categorized it by shelters, rescues, and breeders. I noted their contact info, any application fees, and if they had any Russian Blues or mixes currently available.
- Shelters: Always a good place to start. You never know what beautiful cats are waiting for a home.
- Rescues: Often specialize in specific breeds, so this felt promising.
- Breeders: A more expensive route, but I wanted to explore all options.
The Application Process (Ugh)
Next up, the applications. Oh, the applications! Some were simple, others were like applying for a mortgage. I filled out what felt like a million forms, answered all sorts of questions about my lifestyle, my home, my experience with cats… everything!
I patiently waited for the replies. Some places never even got back to me. Others sent polite “no thank you” emails. It was a bit discouraging, I’m not gonna * I got the message “We have received your application and will arrange an interview for you as soon as possible”.I am so happy.
Meeting the Kitties (and the People)
Finally, I started getting invites to meet some cats! I visited a few shelters and a couple of rescue organizations. It’s so important to see the cats in person, get a feel for their personalities, and see how they interact with people.
The staff and volunteers were usually super helpful, answering my questions and giving me background on the cats. I asked about their health, their temperament, and their history (if known).
Success!
And then, it happened. I met this adorable Russian Blue mix at a small rescue. He was a little shy at first, but so sweet. We connected immediately. I knew he was the one.
So, after final paperwork. I took my new furry friend home!

It was a lot of work, but totally worth it. Bringing a new pet home is a big decision, so doing your research and being patient is key. Good luck with your own pet adoption journey!
