Oh, ya know, if ya got a Golden Retriever, you gotta make sure you get the right size crate for ’em. Ain’t no one wanna see their dog cramped up or too loose in a crate, right? So let me tell ya, it’s real important to pick the right one. A lot of folks ask, “What size crate should I get for my Golden Retriever?” Well, let me break it down for ya.

Best Golden Retriever Crate Size: 42 Inches or 34 Inches?

First thing ya gotta know is that Golden Retrievers are a big dog, not like them little lap dogs folks keep in a purse. These dogs need space, but they don’t need a crate that’s too big either. If the crate’s too big, they might start using one corner as a bathroom, which ain’t good for anyone, and if it’s too small, they won’t be able to stretch out. Now, for most adult Goldens, a 42-inch crate is just the right size.

Some folks might say, “Well, ain’t that too big?” But trust me, it ain’t. If you get a 42-inch crate, it gives the dog enough room to lay down, turn around, and feel comfortable. You gotta think of it like a little house for your dog, just big enough so they ain’t bumping into the sides but not too big that they feel lost in there.

Now, if you got a puppy Golden Retriever, don’t go rushing out to buy a big ol’ 42-inch crate right away. I know, they grow fast, but puppies ain’t that big at first. What you can do is get a 42-inch crate and use a divider in it. That way, the puppy has just enough space to turn around and sleep, but as they grow, you can slide the divider back to give ’em more room. Saves ya from having to buy a new crate every few weeks, and that’s good for your pocket too!

There’s also some folks who swear by a 34-inch crate for their Goldens, especially if the dog ain’t too big. But let me tell ya, I’ve seen some mighty big Goldens, and if you got one of them, you might want to go up to a 42-inch crate. Some people even go for a 40-inch crate, but in my opinion, a 42-inch is usually the best bet for adult Goldens.

  • If your Golden Retriever is full grown, go with a 42-inch crate.
  • For puppies, get a 42-inch crate with a divider so it grows with ’em.
  • If you got a smaller Golden, a 34-inch crate might work, but 42 inches is better for most.
  • Don’t forget to measure your dog before you buy. They grow quick, and ya don’t wanna end up with a crate that’s too small too soon!

One more thing, when you’re buying a crate, check how sturdy it is. You don’t want a cheap crate that falls apart after a couple of uses. Make sure it’s made well, especially if you got a Golden who’s a bit of a chewer or a mover. Ain’t nothing worse than a dog that gets out of their crate and causes a ruckus around the house!

Best Golden Retriever Crate Size: 42 Inches or 34 Inches?

So, to sum it all up, for most Golden Retrievers, a 42-inch crate is the way to go. It’s the perfect size for an adult dog, and if you got a pup, you can make it work with a divider. And remember, measure your dog first, ‘cause you want them to be comfy in there, not cramped up or swimming around in too much space.
