Okay, here is my sharing about how I got my Rottweiler to gain some weight, hope this helps!
So, I’ve got this Rottweiler, a big fella, but he was kinda skinny. I wanted him to bulk up a bit, you know, get that strong, muscular look. So I did some digging around, asked some folks, and here’s what I ended up doing.

Food, Food, and More Food
First thing, I changed up his food. I found some specialized dog food designed for weight gain. These usually have more calories and stuff. But the real deal was adding more meat and protein to his meals.
- Started with the Basics: I started giving him more lean meat, like beef and chicken. Dogs love this stuff, and it’s packed with protein, which is great for building muscle.
- Cooked up Some Extras: Sometimes, I’d cook up some extra beef or chicken – no fancy spices, just plain, boiled meat. Mixed it in with his regular food. He went nuts for it!
Veggies and Grains, Too
But it wasn’t just about meat. I also added some veggies and grains.
- Healthy Carbs: Stuff like rice and sweet potatoes. These give them energy, and it helps with weight gain.
- Mixing it Up: I’d boil some rice or bake a sweet potato, mash it up, and mix it with his meat and dog food. Keeps things interesting, you know?
Keeping Him Hydrated
And of course, water. Gotta keep them hydrated, especially when you’re trying to put on weight.
- Fresh Water Always: Made sure he always had fresh water available. Especially after all that eating and playing, he needed it.
Watching Him Grow
So, I kept this up for a while, and man, did I see a difference! He started filling out, getting more muscular. But I was careful, too.
- Regular Check-ups: I took him to the vet regularly just to make sure he was gaining weight in a healthy way. Didn’t want him to get too heavy, just healthy and strong.
- Adjusting as Needed: Depending on how he was doing, I adjusted the amount of food. It’s not one-size-fits-all. You gotta see what works for your dog.
And that’s pretty much it. It took some time and effort, but seeing my Rottweiler get all big and strong was totally worth it. He’s not just a pet; he’s like a part of the family, and I want him to be as healthy and happy as possible.
Hope this helps someone else with a skinny Rottweiler or any dog who needs to gain weight. Just remember, every dog is different, so what worked for mine might need a little tweaking for yours. Good luck!
