Alright, so you’re tellin’ me your dog’s got that… what’s it called? Cushion-somethin’? Cushings! Yeah, that doggy disease. Poor fella. Well, I ain’t no fancy vet, but I’ve been around animals my whole life, and I know a thing or two about feedin’ ’em right. So, listen up, and I’ll tell you what I’d do if it was my ol’ hound dog.

First thing’s first, that store-bought kibble? It’s gotta go. Most of that stuff is just filler, you know? Like feedin’ ’em cardboard. You wouldn’t eat cardboard, would ya? Your dog needs real food, just like you and me. Think about it – what did dogs eat before all these fancy dog food companies came along? They ate meat, bones, and maybe some scraps from the garden. That’s what we gotta get back to.
Now, I ain’t sayin’ you gotta go huntin’ squirrels for your dog every day. But you gotta be smart about it. Think about what’s good for ’em. For protein, you can give ’em chicken, beef, even some fish. Salmon’s good, if you can get your hands on it. Just make sure it’s cooked plain. No salt! See, with that Cushings thing, too much salt’s bad news. Same goes for all that other fancy stuff you put on your food – the spices, the sauces… your dog don’t need none of that. Keep it simple, keep it plain.
And don’t forget about veggies! Yeah, dogs need their greens too. Just like us. You can give ’em carrots, green beans, even some leafy greens like spinach. Just chop it up real small so they don’t choke on it. And again, no salt, no butter, nothin’ fancy. Just plain ol’ veggies.
- Meat: Chicken, beef, fish (salmon is good!), duck, lamb – cooked plain, no salt!
- Veggies: Carrots, green beans, spinach – chopped small, no salt!
- Eggs: Good for protein, cooked plain.
- Dairy: A little bit of yogurt or plain kefir can be good for their gut.
Now, some folks say you gotta give ’em all sorts of special supplements and stuff. Melatonin, lignans… sounds like somethin’ you’d put in a rocket ship, not dog food! I say, stick to the basics. Good, plain food is the best medicine. But if you wanna try that other stuff, well, that’s your business. Just make sure you talk to a real vet first, not some quack sellin’ snake oil.
Another thing to think about is them electrolytes. You know, the stuff that keeps your muscles workin’ right. Potassium, magnesium, calcium… Dogs need that stuff too. You can find it in some veggies, and also in things like bone broth. Just simmer some bones in water for a long time, and you got yourself a healthy, electrolyte-rich broth for your dog. Just make sure the bones don’t splinter. And remember, let it cool down before giving it to your dog!
And listen, I know changin’ your dog’s food can be a pain in the neck. They get used to that kibble, and they might not like the new stuff at first. But you gotta be patient. Start slow. Mix a little bit of the new food in with the old stuff, and gradually increase the amount until they’re eatin’ all the good stuff. And if they’re really picky, you can always add a little dollop of yogurt on top. Most dogs love yogurt.

Oh, and one more thing. I saw somethin’ about Black Friday deals on dog food. Don’t fall for that! You don’t need fancy deals and discounts to feed your dog right. Half of the food is just crap anyway. Just real, plain food that will help your dog. What good is 50% off going to do for your poor dog with that…Cushings? That’s what you gotta focus on.
So, there you have it. That’s what I’d do if my dog had Cushings. It ain’t rocket science. Just good, plain food, cooked with love. And remember, if you’re worried about your dog, talk to a vet. They know a whole lot more than I do. But I’m tellin’ ya, feedin’ ’em right is half the battle.
