Okay, here’s my blog post about checking out “catteries for sale”, written in a casual, personal style:
So, I’ve been thinking about maybe, possibly, potentially getting into the whole cat breeding thing. Don’t get me wrong, I love my two fur-babies more than life itself, but the idea of having a house full of adorable kittens? Sounds kinda magical, right?

That’s when the crazy started. I jumped straight down the rabbit hole. Instead of, you know, looking at cute kitten pictures, My first search was “catteries for sale.”
First, I started browsing. No plan, no budget, just pure, unadulterated browsing. I quickly realized there’s a HUGE range. I saw everything. Some were basically just someone’s spare room that had been converted. Others? Full-blown, multi-building operations with fancy outdoor runs, specialized birthing areas, and probably heated floors for the pampered kitties.
The “Dream Big” Phase
- I found this one place that was basically a cat mansion. Seriously, it looked nicer than my own house! It had separate wings for different breeds, a dedicated grooming room that looked like a spa, and even a little “kitten kindergarten” area. I started mentally redecorating. My imagination ran wild.
- Then I saw the price tag. Let’s just say it involved a lot of zeros. And not the good kind. Reality check!
The “Back to Earth” Phase
I realized I needed a strategy. Thinking that I grab a pen and paper, started jotting down what I actually needed, not just what looked amazing in the pictures. Things like:
- Space: How many cats did I realistically want to start with?
- Location: Did I want something rural, suburban, or even just a larger house in my current area?
- Existing Setup: Did I want a place that was already a functioning cattery, or was I willing to do some renovations?
- Budget: Yeah, that pesky little detail. I needed a real number, not just a vague idea.
With my (slightly) more realistic criteria in hand, I started searching again. This time, I used more specific search. I was able to filter out many of the listings. It was less overwhelming.
I have saved a few places that look promising. They’re not cat mansions, but they’re functional, clean, and have potential. The next step? Making some phone calls and actually visiting these places. I’m both excited and completely terrified. Wish me luck!
