Okay, so I’ve been meaning to switch up my cat litter for a while. My usual stuff was okay, but the dust was getting to me, and honestly, the clumping wasn’t always the best. I kept seeing stuff about bentonite clay litter, so I figured I’d dive in and see what all the fuss was about.
The Deep Dive into Bentonite Brands
First things first, I started by just Googling “bentonite cat litter brands.” Wow, information overload! There are so many options. I spent a good hour just reading reviews and articles, trying to get a feel for the big names and what people were saying about them.

I narrowed it down to a few brands that seemed to pop up repeatedly with good reviews. I wanted something that focused on low dust, strong clumping (nobody wants a crumbly mess!), and, of course, odor control. A cat’s gotta do what a cat’s gotta do, but that doesn’t mean my house has to smell like it!
The Shopping Spree (and the Setup)
Next, I hit the pet store. I grabbed a few different bags of the brands I’d researched. I made sure to get smaller bags, just in case my finicky feline decided she wasn’t a fan. I have to try several kinds.
Back home, it was time for the real test. I completely cleaned out the litter box – a fresh start is crucial! Then, I poured in the first brand, making sure to follow the instructions on the bag for the recommended depth.
The Observation Period (aka Stalker Mode)
This is where the real fun began. I basically turned into a cat litter detective. I watched how my cat reacted to the new litter – did she sniff it suspiciously? Did she use it right away? Did she seem comfortable?
Then, of course, came the scooping. I paid close attention to how well the litter clumped. Did it form solid, easy-to-remove clumps, or did it crumble and fall apart? I also kept a close eye (and nose!) on the odor control. Was it working? Or did I need to light a candle (or ten)?
- First brand: Clumped pretty well, but the dust was a bit more than I expected.
- Second brand: Less dust, but the clumping was a little weaker. My cat seemed to like it, though.
- Third brand: This one seemed to be the winner! Low dust, super strong clumping, and the odor control was excellent.
The Verdict (and My Cat’s, Too!)
After trying out a few different brands, I finally found one that both my cat and I are happy with. It’s a bit of a process, and every cat is different, but for us, taking the time to experiment with different bentonite litters was definitely worth it. No more dust clouds, and scooping is a breeze!
