Okay, so the other day I was thinking about getting my pup, Buster, the kennel cough vaccine. I’d heard some dogs feel a bit off after it, and I wanted to be prepared. So, I started digging around online, reading articles and forums. Seems like some dogs do get a little under the weather, but it’s usually mild and doesn’t last long.

My Prep Work

Before even making the vet appointment, I made a checklist of things to watch out for:

After Kennel Cough Vaccine: Is It Normal for Dogs to Feel Unwell? (Vet Advice)
  • Sniffles or a cough: Ironic, right? But apparently, a mild cough can happen.
  • Less energy: Buster usually bounces off the walls, so any laziness would be a red flag.
  • Loss of appetite: This dog loves his food. If he turns his nose up, something’s up.
  • Fever: I got a doggy thermometer just in case.

The Big Day

We went to the vet, and Buster, bless his heart, was his usual happy self. He got the vaccine (the nasal spray kind), and the vet basically echoed what I’d read online – some mild symptoms are possible, but nothing to freak out about.

The Waiting Game

Honestly, the first 24 hours I was probably too watchful. Every little sneeze made me jump. But Buster? He was fine. Played, ate, zoomed around the yard… totally normal.

Slight sniffle

The second day, he did have a tiny bit of a runny nose. Like, barely noticeable. He sneezed a couple of times, too. But his energy was still high, and he devoured his dinner, So, that’s what happed, It was a minor sniffle.

Back to Normal

By day three, the sniffles were gone. Completely. It was like nothing had ever happened. Buster was back to his usual, goofy, energetic self.

My Takeaway

From my experience, yeah, there might be a little something after the kennel cough vaccine. A tiny sniffle, maybe a bit of tiredness. But it was super mild and short-lived. Honestly, I was probably more worried than I needed to be. I’m still glad I got him vaccinated, though – better a little sniffle than full-blown kennel cough!
