Okay, so today’s adventure started with me thinking about getting a new furry friend. I’ve always loved cats, and recently, I’ve been really drawn to the idea of a Russian Blue. They’re just so gorgeous with their silvery coats and those amazing green eyes! But I wasn’t sure about the short hair thing, so I started digging around to see if there were any long-haired Russian Blue kittens out there.
First, I hit up Google Images, just to get a feel for what they looked like. I typed in “Russian Blue kitten” and my screen just exploded with cuteness! Tiny, fluffy balls of silver fur everywhere. I spent a good hour just scrolling through pictures, saving the ones I liked best. I even found some that were labeled as “long-haired,” but they honestly didn’t look that different to me.

Discovering the Nebelung
Then, I stumbled upon something called a “Nebelung.” Apparently, it’s like the long-haired cousin of the Russian Blue. They have that same beautiful blue-grey coat, but it’s longer and silkier. Who knew? I started reading up on them and found out that they’re pretty rare and can be a bit pricey. But those pictures! They were so elegant and fluffy, I was totally smitten.
- Nebelung Characteristics:
- Silky blue-grey fur coat
- Yellowish green to solid green eyes
- Medium-sized with a long, muscular build
- Long sweeping tail and ears proportionate to the head
- Weigh between seven and 14 pounds
Next, I checked out some online pet marketplaces and breeder websites. I wanted to see if anyone in my area had Nebelung kittens or maybe even long-haired Russian Blue kittens. I found a few breeders, but they were pretty far away. I also learned that the price can range quite a bit, depending on where you get the kitten from and things like its lineage. I saw prices anywhere from $800 to $2,000, and even more for some fancy, top-of-the-line kittens.
Reading About Temperament
Of course, it’s not all about looks. I wanted to make sure that a Russian Blue, or a Nebelung, would be a good fit for my lifestyle. So, I started reading about their personalities. From what I gathered, both breeds are known for being pretty chill and affectionate, especially with their favorite humans. They can be a bit shy around strangers, but that’s okay with me. I also read that they’re not super destructive and they don’t shed a ton, which is a big plus.
I spent the rest of the day daydreaming about having a little silver fluffball running around my apartment. I imagined playing with it, cuddling on the couch, and just enjoying its company. I even started thinking of names!
So, that’s where I’m at now. I’m still not 100% sure if I’ll actually get a long-haired Russian Blue or a Nebelung, but I’m definitely leaning that way. It’s a big decision, but I’m excited about the possibility of bringing a new furry friend into my life. I’ll keep you guys updated on what I decide!
