Alright, so let me tell you about my little adventure with this “Against the Grain” pet food. My old girl, Daisy, she’s been getting real picky in her golden years, you know? Turning her nose up at stuff she used to gobble down. It’s been a bit of a headache, trying to find something she’ll actually eat and that I feel good about giving her.
My Search Begins
So, I was at the pet store the other day, just staring at the rows and rows of cans. It’s overwhelming, isn’t it? All these fancy labels, promising the moon. I saw this “Against the Grain” brand. Hadn’t really paid it much mind before, but the packaging on one of them, I think it was a chicken dinner or something, looked kinda… honest? I don’t know, less flashy than some of the others. Picked up a few different cans. Thought, what the heck, let’s give it a whirl.

The Big Unveiling
Got home, and it was dinner time for Daisy. I grabbed one of the cans – I think I started with the “Tuna & Crab Surfin’ Dinner,” ’cause she usually goes for fishy stuff. Popped the lid. First thing I noticed, it actually looked like real food. Not that weird, overly processed pâté stuff you sometimes get. This had shreds of tuna, little bits of crab. Smelled pretty decent too, for cat food. Not gonna lie, some brands just stink up the whole kitchen.
So, I scooped some into her bowl. Daisy, she comes trotting over, does her usual sniff-around routine. You know how they are. She sniffed it, looked at me, sniffed it again. I was holding my breath a bit, not gonna kid you.
The Verdict from Her Majesty
And then… she actually started eating it! Not just a polite nibble either. She tucked right in. I was pretty chuffed, I tell ya. Watched her clean about half the portion, then she wandered off for a bit, came back later and finished the rest. That’s a win in my book, especially lately.
We’ve been trying a few of their different flavors over the past week or so. Here’s what I’ve seen:
- She’s consistently eating it, which is the main thing. Less food wasted, thank goodness.
- The ingredients lists on these things seem pretty straightforward. Lots of meat, not a ton of fillers I can’t pronounce.
- Her, uh, “output” in the litter box has been normal. No upset tummy, which is always a worry when you switch foods.
My Two Cents
So, yeah, my experience with “Against the Grain” has been pretty positive so far. It’s not the cheapest stuff on the shelf, mind you, but if Daisy eats it and it seems like decent quality, I’m willing to fork over a bit extra. It’s a pain when they get fussy, and finding something that works feels like a small victory. I’ll probably keep getting it for her, rotate it with another brand she tolerates, just to keep things interesting for the old girl. If you’re in the same boat with a picky eater, might be worth a shot. Can’t promise your furball will love it, but Daisy seems to give it her paw of approval, and that’s good enough for me.
