So, I went through the whole process of getting my cats their “3 in 1” vaccine not too long ago. Thought I’d share how it all went down, just my own little record of it.
Getting Ready for the Big Day
First things first, I called up my vet. Just the local clinic I always go to. Booked an appointment, pretty simple. Then, I had to dig out the cat carriers from the closet. Gave them a good wipe down. You know how dusty they can get. I always try to leave them out for a day or so before, so the cats don’t immediately panic when they see them. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t.

The Trip to the Vet
Alright, the day of the appointment rolled around. Getting them into those carriers was the usual circus. My older cat, Leo, he just sort of sighs and gives in. But Luna, the younger one, she turns into a furry little ninja. Lots of gentle coaxing, a few treats, and eventually, I managed to get them both secured. Then we drove over to the vet. The car ride was full of meows, as expected.
At the Clinic
Once we got there, we waited our turn. The vet, Dr. Evans, called us in. She’s always great with them. She gave both Leo and Luna a quick once-over. Listened to their hearts, checked their weight, felt their tummies. Just the standard health check, you know? Then she explained a bit about the 3 in 1 vaccine, what it protects against – some of those common nasty bugs cats can pick up. I just nodded, mostly. I trust her judgement.
Then came the actual shot. It was super quick. She prepped the little needle, and before Leo even really knew what was happening, it was done. He barely flinches these days. Luna was a little more wary, but Dr. Evans is good at distracting them. A quick poke for her too, and she just gave a little hiss, more out of surprise, I think. No big drama, thankfully.
Back Home and Aftercare
So, we headed back home. Once I let them out of the carriers, they both went straight for their favorite napping spots.
- Leo pretty much slept it off for the rest of the afternoon.
- Luna was a bit more subdued than usual. I noticed she was maybe a little tender around the injection site.
I just made sure they had plenty of fresh water and their food was easily accessible. I kept a close eye on them for the rest of the day, just to see if they showed any weird reactions. The vet said it’s normal for them to be a bit sleepy or off their food for a day.
By the next morning, they were pretty much back to their normal, chaotic selves. Leo was demanding breakfast at top volume, and Luna was chasing dust bunnies. So, all good on that front. No major side effects, which was a relief.

My Final Thoughts
Overall, getting the 3 in 1 vaccine was a pretty smooth process this time around. It’s just one of those responsibilities that comes with having these furry family members. You want to do what’s best to keep them healthy and safe. It’s always a bit of an ordeal with the carriers and the car ride, but knowing they’re protected just gives me peace of mind. Just sharing my bit, in case anyone’s wondering what it’s like.
