Alright, so, today I’m gonna share my experience trying to figure out the neck size situation for my corgi, Peanut. It was…an adventure, let me tell ya.
It all started because I wanted to get Peanut a new collar. His old one was looking kinda ratty, and I figured he deserved an upgrade. Plus, you know, gotta keep him looking stylish for his walks in the park. So, I hopped online, ready to buy a cool, new collar.

But then it hit me. I had NO idea what size collar Peanut actually needed. I mean, I could just eyeball it, but I didn’t want to risk getting something too tight or too loose. A too-tight collar would be uncomfortable, and a too-loose one? Well, that’s just an escape waiting to happen.
So, I grabbed a soft measuring tape. You know, the kind you use for sewing. Peanut, of course, was immediately suspicious. He gave me that side-eye that only corgis can truly master. I lured him over with a treat (a tiny piece of cheese, his weakness).
Here’s where the fun started. Trying to get a corgi to stand still long enough to measure his neck is like trying to herd cats. He kept wiggling, sniffing the tape measure, and generally being a little goofball. I had to bribe him with more cheese. Lots more cheese.
Finally, after a few attempts, I managed to get a measurement. It was around 14 inches. Okay, good! I thought. Now I can just order a 14-inch collar, right? Wrong.
I did a quick Google search (“corgi neck size,” naturally) just to double-check, and I saw a bunch of articles saying you should add a couple of inches to the measurement for a comfortable fit. So, I figured I’d go with a 16-inch collar to be safe.
I ordered the collar online, waited impatiently for it to arrive, and then… it was HUGE. Like, comically huge. Peanut could practically walk out of it. I was so frustrated! All that cheese, all that measuring, for nothing!
So, I went back to the drawing board. This time, I decided to take Peanut to a local pet store. I figured having him there to try on collars would be way easier than guessing online.

And it was! The store employees were super helpful. We tried on a few different sizes, and it turned out that a 14-inch collar was actually the perfect fit. I guess Peanut’s neck is just…average? Who knew?
The lesson I learned? Don’t always trust what you read online. And sometimes, the best way to figure something out is to just try it in person. Plus, Peanut got a lot of attention (and treats) at the pet store, so he was a happy little loaf.
Now Peanut’s rocking his new collar, looking like the handsome corgi he is. And I’m finally done with the whole neck size saga. What a journey!
