Okay, so here’s the story about how I ended up with a Russian Blue. Buckle up, it’s a bit of a ride.
It all started a few weeks ago. I was scrolling through Facebook, you know, wasting time as usual, and I saw a post from a local rescue organization. They had a whole litter of kittens, and one of them was this little grey fluffball that just melted my heart.

I’d been thinking about getting a cat for a while, mostly because my apartment felt kinda empty. Plus, I work from home, so I figured a furry friend would be good company. I’d always been drawn to Russian Blues – that sleek grey coat and those piercing green eyes? Stunning.
So, I did what any sane person would do: I immediately filled out an application. Figured there’d be a ton of people applying, but hey, gotta try, right?
Then came the waiting game. It was agonizing! I kept refreshing my email like a maniac. Finally, a couple of days later, I got a call. They wanted to schedule a virtual interview! I was stoked.
The interview was pretty straightforward. They asked about my living situation, my experience with cats, my work schedule, all that jazz. I made sure to emphasize how much I wanted a companion and how committed I was to providing a good home. I even showed them my (very basic) cat-friendly setup.
A few more days went by, and I was starting to lose hope. Then, BAM! Another call. I was approved! They said I could come meet the kittens the following weekend. I practically jumped for joy.
Saturday rolled around, and I drove over to the rescue place. It was a bit chaotic, with cats and kittens everywhere. But then I saw her – that little grey fluffball from the picture. She was even cuter in person!
I spent about an hour playing with all the kittens, but I kept gravitating back to the grey one. She was playful, but also super chill. She even let me hold her without squirming. I knew she was the one.

The adoption process was pretty easy. Filled out some paperwork, paid the adoption fee (totally worth it!), and then they gave me the go-ahead to take her home. They even gave me a little starter kit with food, litter, and a toy mouse.
Bringing her home was a little nerve-wracking. I was worried she’d be scared or stressed. But she actually seemed pretty relaxed. She sniffed around a bit, explored her new digs, and then promptly curled up in her new bed and took a nap.
It’s been about a week now, and she’s settled in perfectly. She’s super playful, loves to cuddle, and has the loudest purr I’ve ever heard. I named her Luna (because, you know, grey like the moon).
Things I learned during this whole process:
- Rescue organizations are awesome. They do so much good work.
- Be patient! The adoption process can take time.
- Prepare your home beforehand. Make sure you have food, water, litter, and a safe space for your new kitty.
- And most importantly, be ready for lots of love and purrs!
Honestly, adopting Luna was one of the best decisions I’ve made. She’s brought so much joy and companionship into my life. If you’re thinking about getting a cat, I highly recommend considering adoption. You won’t regret it.
That’s pretty much the whole story! Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go give Luna some head scratches.
