Okay, so yesterday I finally went through with it – getting a Russian Blue kitten. I’d been wanting one for ages, and after doing a ton of research, I decided to check out breeders around Cincinnati. Here’s the whole shebang:

The Hunt Begins: Finding a Breeder

Russian Blue Cat Cincinnati: Adoption Guide & Info

First, I hopped online and started Googling stuff like “Russian Blue kittens Cincinnati” and “Russian Blue breeders Ohio.” I checked out a bunch of websites, read reviews (super important!), and even joined a few Facebook groups dedicated to Russian Blue owners. There were a few breeders that seemed legit, but honestly, a lot of them felt kinda sketchy. I wanted to make sure I was getting a healthy, well-socialized kitten from a reputable source.

Vet Check and Meet-and-Greet (Crucial!)

After narrowing it down to two breeders, I called both of them up. I asked them a million questions about their breeding practices, the health of their cats, and what kind of socialization the kittens get. One of the breeders was super open and happy to answer all my questions. The other was a bit cagey, which was a red flag for me. I made an appointment to visit the first breeder.

When I got there, I was so impressed! The cats were all running around and playing. The kittens were playful, and the whole place smelled clean. The breeder showed me the health records of the parents and the kittens, and she even let me talk to her vet! That sealed the deal. It was obvious she cared about her cats.

Choosing My Little Buddy

There were three kittens available, and honestly, they were all adorable. But one little guy kept coming back to me, purring and rubbing against my leg. He had the most beautiful green eyes and a super soft coat. It was love at first sight, ya know? I knew he was the one.

Bringing Him Home (The Real Adventure Starts)

Before taking him home, I made sure I had everything ready: a good quality kitten food, a litter box, scratching post, some toys (laser pointers are always a hit!), and a comfy bed. The breeder gave me a blanket that smelled like his mom, which helped him settle in that night.

First Few Days: A Rollercoaster

  • Day 1: He was pretty scared at first, hiding under the sofa. But after a while, he started to explore and even played a little bit.
  • Day 2: He started eating and using the litter box, which was a huge relief. He also started purring a lot more and snuggling up with me.
  • Day 3: He was definitely feeling more comfortable. He started running around the house, chasing toys, and even attacking my feet (playfully, of course!).

Things I Learned (The Hard Way)

  • Kitten-proof your house! Seriously, they can get into everything. I had to move all my breakables and cover up any exposed wires.
  • Patience is key. It takes time for a kitten to adjust to a new home. Don’t force anything, just let them come to you.
  • Enjoy the cuddles! They grow up so fast.

A Week Later: My Life is Complete (Almost)

He’s been with me for about a week now, and he’s already become such an important part of my life. He’s playful, affectionate, and hilarious. He loves to chase his tail, climb the curtains, and nap on my lap. I named him Dimitri, and he’s the best little dude ever.

Final Thoughts: Worth Every Penny

Getting a Russian Blue kitten in Cincinnati was a bit of a process, but it was totally worth it. If you’re thinking about getting one, do your research, find a reputable breeder, and be prepared to give your new furry friend lots of love and attention. You won’t regret it!
