Okay, so I decided to try out a new wet food for my cat, Mittens. She’s usually a dry food kinda gal, but I’ve heard wet food is better for hydration, and, well, let’s just say her “litter box output” hasn’t been the most… fragrant lately. Figured a change might do her good.
Picking the Food
First things first, I headed to the pet store. You know, the one with the overly enthusiastic employees and the aisle dedicated solely to catnip toys? Yeah, that one. I spent a good 20 minutes just staring at the wall of wet food options. Chicken, tuna, salmon, beef… it’s a whole seafood buffet and barnyard bonanza in there!

I ended up grabbing a few cans of “Chicken Chunks in Gravy.” Sounded appetizing enough, even to me. Plus, it was on sale. Bonus!
The Big Moment
Back home, I popped open the can. The smell? Surprisingly not terrible. Kinda like… chicken soup, actually. Mittens, who had been giving me the silent treatment up until this point (typical cat), suddenly appeared out of nowhere. She started weaving around my legs, purring like a tiny motor.
I scooped some of the food into her bowl, and folks, it was like watching a tiny, furry vacuum cleaner. She devoured that stuff. No hesitation, no sniffing, just straight-up inhalation.
The Aftermath
- The Good: Mittens clearly loved it. Clean bowl, happy cat.
- The Not-So-Good: Let’s just say the “output” situation, while… improved in terms of hydration, was not necessarily improved in the aroma department. But hey, I guess that is what litter is for!
All in all, I’d say the wet chicken cat food experiment was a success. Might need to invest in some extra-strength air freshener, though. And maybe some nose plugs. Just kidding (mostly). Will I do it again? Probably. Anything for my little fur-ball, even if it means dealing with some… potent smells.
