Okay, so I’ve been wanting to make my own pet toys for a while now. I saw some cute ones online, but they were kinda pricey. I figured, “Hey, I can probably make these myself!” So, I started looking around the house for materials.
Gathering Supplies
First, I raided my old t-shirt pile. You know, the ones with holes or stains that you can’t really wear anymore? Perfect for this! I also found some old towels that were getting pretty ratty. Then, I grabbed:

- Scissors (the sharper, the better!)
- A needle and some strong thread
- Some stuffing (I used cotton balls from an old pillow)
- Optional: Squeakers (if you want to get fancy)
The Making Process
I started by cutting the fabric into shapes. I went with simple stuff – long strips for tug-of-war toys, squares for little pillows, and even tried a bone shape (it looked more like a blob, but hey, my dog won’t judge!).
Next, I sewed the pieces together. Now, I’m no sewing expert, so my stitches were…rustic. But I made sure to double-stitch everything so it wouldn’t fall apart the second my dog got his paws on it. If you’re adding a squeaker, this is when you pop it in!
Once the edges were mostly sealed, I stuffed the toys with the cotton balls. I made sure to pack it in pretty tight, especially for the tug-of-war strips. Then, I finished sewing up the openings.
The Finished Product
Honestly, they weren’t the prettiest toys, but they were sturdy! I tested them out by playing a little tug-of-war with myself (don’t judge!), and they held up pretty well. My dog absolutely loved them! He went crazy for the tug-of-war one, and he even cuddled with the little pillow toy.
It was way more satisfying than buying something from the store, and cheaper too! I even got the children involved, It’s fun making them. Definitely recommend giving it a try if you’re looking for a cheap and fun way to spoil your furry friend.
