Okay, so my dog, bless his furry little heart, brought some unwanted guests home. Yep, fleas. And they decided to make my carpet their new favorite hangout. I tried a few things, but nothing seemed to do the trick. That’s when I decided to go all-in with a flea carpet cleaner shampoo. Here’s how it went down:
Prepping the Battlefield
First things first, I vacuumed like a madman. I mean, every nook and cranny. I even moved the furniture, which is a workout in itself! The idea is to suck up as many of those little buggers and their eggs as possible before you even start with the shampoo.

Bringing in the Big Guns
I picked up a flea carpet cleaner shampoo. Make sure to read about it first. Anyway, after mixing it up according to the instructions (super important, don’t wing it!), I loaded up my carpet cleaner. If you don’t have one, you can usually rent them from the grocery store or a hardware store.
Shampoo Time!
This part was actually kind of satisfying. I went over the entire carpet, making sure to get every inch. I even did a second pass in the areas where my dog spends the most time. It’s all about being thorough, like really thorough.
The Waiting Game
After shampooing, I let the carpet dry completely. This is crucial because the shampoo needs time to work its magic. I kept my dog and myself off the carpet during this time, It was tough, but safety first!
Post-Shampoo Vacuuming
Once everything was bone-dry, I vacuumed again. And I mean, again again. This helps to remove any dead fleas or leftover residue from the shampoo. Remember the first step? Do it one more time!
The Results?
- Fewer fleas: Definitely a noticeable difference. I wasn’t seeing those little guys jumping around anymore.
- Peace of mind: Knowing I did a deep clean made me feel a lot better about the whole situation.
- Ongoing battle: I realized that this is an ongoing thing. I’ll probably need to repeat this process in a few weeks, just to be sure I got all the eggs that might have hatched.
It was a bit of work, but seeing my dog comfortable and not scratching like crazy made it totally worth it. And one final thing, I’ll clean my dog with shampoo too.
