So, I wanted to mess around with this thing called “whippet news” today. I’d heard about it from some online buddies, and it sounded kinda neat. It’s supposed to be, like, a super-fast way to get news, or something. Honestly, I didn’t fully get it, but I was bored, so I figured, why not?
Getting Started
First, I had to find the darn thing. I just googled “whippet news” and scrolled through a bunch of stuff. No official-looking website popped up, just some forum posts and GitHub links. It seemed kinda…underground? I ended up clicking on a GitHub link, ’cause that seemed like the most legit place to start.

Figuring It Out (Sort Of)
The GitHub page was, well, a GitHub page. Lots of code and techy jargon I didn’t really understand. I’m not a coder, okay? I just wanted to see some news! I poked around and found something called a “README” file. It had some instructions, but they weren’t exactly user-friendly.
I think had to install some other program first. Then, after that program installed and follow the rest of the instruction.
The Actual “News” Part
Finally, after all that messing around, I managed to get something to work. I typed in some command (I don’t even remember what it was) and a bunch of text scrolled up my screen. It was…news headlines, I guess? Super short, like, just a few words for each one. No pictures, no links, nothing fancy.
- Headline 1: “Stocks go up maybe”
- Headline 2: “Something happened somewhere”
- Headline 3: “Politician says thing”
It was definitely fast. I mean, the headlines popped up instantly. But honestly, it wasn’t that helpful. I had no idea what any of these headlines were actually about. There was no context! It felt like reading the first sentence of a bunch of random articles.
My Takeaway
Okay, so “whippet news” is fast. I’ll give it that. But is it actually useful? For me, not really. I need a little more than just a couple of words to understand what’s going on in the world. Maybe it’s good for people who are super busy and just want a quick, quick glance at the headlines. But for me, I think I’ll stick to my regular news apps. They might be slower, but at least I can actually understand what I’m reading!
It was interesting try and maybe I’ll mess with it again sometime, but for now, it’s back to the usual news sources for me.
