Okay, so I saw this question online about dog food that tastes like cat food, and I was like, “What? Is that even a thing?” But then, I remembered my own dog, Max. That little rascal is ALWAYS trying to sneak bites of the cat’s food. So, I got curious and decided to do some digging.
My Mission: Find Dog Food That’s Cat-Food-Esque
First, I hit up the pet store. I mean, the huge one, with aisles and aisles of options. I spent a good hour just reading labels. I was looking for keywords like “fish,” “savory,” or anything that sounded remotely cat-like.

- Checked the protein sources: Lots of dog foods use chicken or beef, but I focused on ones with fish, like salmon or tuna.
- Considered Texture:It seems like a dry,kibble * I looked for food with a simillar texture.
- Sniffed (discreetly, of course!): I wanted something that had that, um, distinctive cat food aroma.
The Experiment: Max’s Taste Test
I ended up buying three different kinds of dog food that I thought might fit the bill. One was salmon-flavored, another was a “seafood medley,” and the third was just a regular chicken flavor (as a control, you know, for science!).
I set up three bowls, one with each food, and let Max loose. He sniffed each one, tail wagging like crazy. He gobbled down the seafood medley first, then the salmon, and barely touched the chicken. Success!
The result
So, based on my very scientific, totally-not-biased experiment, it seems like dog food with a strong fish flavor is the way to go if you want something that might appeal to a cat-food-loving dog. Or, you know, just keep the cat food out of reach. That works too.
It totally worked! Max loves the fishy dog food, and he’s been leaving the cat’s kibble alone. Mostly. Old habits die hard, I guess!
