Okay, so I’ve been on this weird mission lately. My cat, Whiskers, is the pickiest eater EVER. Seriously, it’s a nightmare. But my dog, Buster, he’ll eat anything. And I mean anything. Lately, I’ve noticed Buster sneaking into Whiskers’ food bowl and gobbling up whatever’s left. This got me thinking… what if I could find a dog food that tastes like cat food? Would that be the ultimate solution? Maybe, just maybe. So began my great experiment.
Phase 1: The Reconnaissance Mission
First, I had to figure out what made Whiskers’ food so appealing (to Buster, at least). I started by smelling both foods. Yeah, I know, it sounds gross, but I was dedicated! Whiskers’ food definitely had a stronger, fishier smell. Buster’s current food? Well, it smelled like… generic dog food. Bland.

I also examined the ingredients. Whiskers’ food was packed with tuna, salmon, and all sorts of ocean goodies. Buster’s was mostly chicken and… well, I couldn’t even pronounce half the stuff in it.
Phase 2: The Shopping Spree
Armed with my newfound knowledge, I hit the pet store. I spent a good hour reading labels, comparing ingredients, and probably looking like a crazy person. I was on the hunt for dog food with a high fish content. Bonus points if it smelled extra pungent.
- Option 1: “Ocean Delight” – Sounded promising, but the fish content was pretty low.
- Option 2: “Salmon Supreme” – Higher fish content, but it also had a lot of veggies. Buster’s not a big fan of greens.
- Option 3: “Tuna Temptation” – Bingo! This one was loaded with tuna and had a seriously strong smell. I grabbed a bag.
Phase 3: The Taste Test (Not by Me!)
Back home, it was time for the moment of truth. I poured a bowl of the “Tuna Temptation” for Buster. He sniffed it cautiously at first, then went to town! He devoured it faster than I’d ever seen him eat anything. Success!
But the real test was Whiskers. Would he be tempted to steal Buster’s food now? I placed the bowl down and watched. Whiskers approached, sniffed, and… gave me a look that clearly said, “Nice try, human.” He walked away. Darn it!
Phase 4: The Verdict
So, did I find a dog food that tastes exactly like cat food? Nope. But did I find a dog food that Buster loves and that has a similar (but not identical) fishy profile to Whiskers’ food? Absolutely! Buster is happy, and I’m no longer finding him with his head stuck in the cat food bowl. I’ll call that a win, even if Whiskers remains unimpressed.
I am considering mixing a small amount of wet cat food into a portion of Buster’s Tuna Temptation food, this seems promising. I will keep my findings updated!
