Okay, so I’ve been thinking about getting a Persian cat for a while now. They’re just so fluffy and regal-looking! But before I took the plunge, I figured I should probably do some research on how much these little furballs actually cost. You know, just to make sure I wasn’t getting myself into something I couldn’t handle financially.
So, I started digging around online, reading articles, and browsing breeder websites. I even called a few breeders to get some quotes and more details. Let me tell you, the price range for a Persian cat is pretty wide.

What I Found
- Pet Quality: If you’re just looking for a cuddly companion, not a show-stopper, you’re generally looking at around $500 to $1,000. These are your “pet quality” Persians, they will be cute and lovable, but they might not have the perfect features for breeding and showing. They are common.
- Show Quality: Now, if you want a cat that’s going to turn heads at cat shows, you’re going to pay a bit more. We’re talking $1,000 to $1,800, maybe even more. These cats have the looks, the lineage, the whole package. I’ve even seen some priced at $3,000 and above! They are very rare, some of them are even one of a kind.
- Breeding Rights: And then there’s the whole breeding thing. If you want to breed your Persian, you need to pay extra for “breeding rights.” This can add a significant chunk to the price. It seems like it’s usually an extra $500 to $1,000, at least from what I gathered.
I also talked to a few breeders, just to get a feel for what they charge and what’s included. I made some phone calls. One breeder in California quoted me $800 for a pet-quality kitten, while another in Texas was asking $1,500 for a show-quality one.
Honestly, it was a bit overwhelming at first. But after doing all this research, I feel a lot more prepared. I think I’m leaning towards a pet-quality Persian. I mean, I love the idea of a show cat, but I’m not sure I’m ready for that level of commitment (or that price tag!). I will choose a cheaper one, I like cuddly companions more.
So, that’s my Persian cat price adventure so far. It’s been quite the learning experience! Now, it’s time for me to start saving up and finding the perfect furry friend. Wish me luck!
