Okay, so I’ve been wanting a Labrador puppy for a while now, and I finally decided to pull the trigger. I live in Iowa, so I started my search there. Here’s how it went:
First, I wanted to make sure I wasn’t getting scammed or anything, so I started looking for reputable places. I typed in “Labrador Retriever puppies for sale in Iowa” into the search bar. There are a few websites that pop up, like PetzLover, Pawrade, and *. They all seemed pretty legit.

PetzLover kept mentioning “certified AKC breeders,” which sounded important. I figured that meant the puppies were healthy and all that. AKC stands for American Kennel Club. They register purebred dog breeds.
- I started browsing through the listings on these sites. Oh my gosh, the puppies were so cute!
- Each listing had pictures and some basic info about the puppy, like its age, gender, and sometimes even its parents.
- I noticed that Pawrade emphasized finding a puppy “near you,” which was helpful. I didn’t want to drive across the state if I didn’t have to.
I spent a good chunk of time just looking at pictures and reading descriptions. They all seemed to brag about how well-trained and happy their puppies were.
Narrowing it Down
After a while, I started to narrow down my choices based on what I was looking for. Some puppies already had names! Some were different shades of gold, which was adorable.
Then, I made a list of breeders from these websites that were relatively close to me. I wanted to actually go and visit the puppies before making a decision.
Finally, I contacted a few breeders and set up some visits. It’s a big step, so I wanted to be thorough!
I’ll keep you guys updated on how the visits go. Wish me luck!
