So, I’ve been dealing with this thing with my cat’s food lately, and it’s been driving me nuts. You know how it is, you open a can of wet food, and your furry buddy only eats half of it. Then you’re stuck with this open can, and it’s a mess trying to keep it fresh. I used to just slap some plastic wrap on it, but that never really worked well. It was always a struggle to get it to stick right, and it would always come loose in the fridge.

Then I tried those plastic containers, but they were never the right size. Either too big or too small, and they took up so much space. Plus, my cat, being the picky eater he is, would sometimes turn his nose up at the food if it had been in one of those containers for too long. I guess it just didn’t taste the same. I felt bad about wasting all that food, and money, frankly. I even got a few different types of those containers in all shapes and sizes, but nothing really worked well.

I was talking to my neighbor about it, and she told me about these pet food can covers. I was like, “What? There’s a thing for that?” I had no idea! She said they were a game-changer, so I went online and ordered a few different kinds to try out.

Testing out different can covers

I got a pack of those silicone ones, the ones that say they’re “universal” and fit all sizes. They seemed pretty stretchy, and I thought they would work the best. I also grabbed a pack of the plastic ones, just to see if they were any better than what I was using before. I even found a pack that had a little spoon attached, which I thought was kinda neat, even though it seemed a little gimmicky.

When they arrived, I opened a fresh can of food and got to work. The silicone ones were a little tricky to get on at first, but once I figured it out, they fit pretty snugly. They definitely seemed to seal the can better than the plastic wrap ever did. The plastic ones were okay, but they didn’t seem as airtight. The ones with the spoon were just…meh. The spoon was too small to be useful, and the lid itself was nothing special.

Silicone covers are the clear winner

After a week of using them, I gotta say, those silicone covers are the real deal. They keep the food so much fresher than anything else I’ve tried. My cat seems to like the food better, too, which is a huge win. No more wasted food, no more funky smells in the fridge. And they’re super easy to clean, too. Just a quick rinse under the tap, and they’re good as new. I just toss them in the dishwasher, to be honest. They are so much easier to use than the plastic wrap or those other containers I tried, which are now all in a box in the garage.

I’m so glad I found these things. They’ve made my life so much easier, and my cat’s too, I’m sure. If you’re dealing with the same open-can-of-pet-food problem, do yourself a favor and get some of these covers. Trust me, you won’t regret it.

  • Silicone is the way to go: It just seals better and keeps the food fresher.
  • Easy to clean: Just rinse them or toss them in the dishwasher.
  • No more waste: My cat eats all his food now, so I’m not throwing any away.

It’s the little things in life, right? And these little covers have made a big difference. My cat is happy, I’m happy, and my fridge doesn’t smell like old cat food. Win-win-win!
