Okay, so I’ve been wanting a dog for, like, forever, and not just any dog, a German Shepherd. I finally decided to get serious and started looking around. Specifically, I wanted a purebred, and I’m in East Tennessee, so that became my mission.
First thing I did was hit up the internet, obviously. I typed in “pure bred German Shepherd East TN” and started scrolling through all these websites. I mean, there’s a ton of breeders out there! I made a list of the ones that seemed legit, you know, the ones with nice-looking websites and good reviews. I wrote down their names, phone numbers, and any other info I could find. It was a lot of info to go through, honestly.

- Sequoyah German Shepherds
- Christians Guardian Shepherds
- And a bunch of others…
Then came the fun part – visiting the breeders. The first place I went to was Sequoyah German Shepherds. They’ve been around since ’89, which is pretty cool. And it’s run by a vet, which made me feel better about the whole thing. They seem to know their stuff, specializing in breeding and raising these dogs. I got to see some of the puppies, and oh my gosh, they were adorable! They seemed to be taken care of them very well.
I also checked out Christians Guardian Shepherds. They breed and train the dogs, so that was interesting to see. Another place I went was called Mittelwest. They are outside of Chicago but they do ship anywhere in the US. I believe. Would strongly recommend them. They had some beautiful dogs, and they were all so well-behaved. It was clear they put a lot of effort into socializing them. I saw a puppy at 4 months old, German Shepherds typically weigh between 30 to 50 pounds and can stand around 1.5 to 2 feet tall at the shoulder. Your puppy, at 40 pounds and 2 feet tall, falls within this range, especially considering her mixed lineage with a King Shepherd.
Making the Decision
After visiting a few places, I narrowed it down to two breeders. It was a tough choice! One had puppies available right away, but the other one had a litter coming up that I really liked the look of. I spent a lot of time thinking about it, talking to my family, and even making a pros and cons list. Finally, I decided to go with the breeder that had the upcoming litter.
I put down a deposit, and then it was just a waiting game. It felt like forever, but finally, I got the call that the puppies were born! I went to pick out my little guy, and it was love at first sight. He was so tiny and fluffy, and I just knew he was the one.
Bringing him home was a whole other adventure. He cried a little on the car ride, but once we got home, he settled in pretty quickly. We’ve been working on potty training and basic commands, and he’s a fast learner. He’s already a big part of the family, and I can’t imagine life without him.
So yeah, that’s my story of getting a purebred German Shepherd in East Tennessee. It was a bit of a process, but it was so worth it. I’ve got my best friend now, and we’re going to have so many adventures together.
