Okay, so, I’ve been seeing this “silvervine” stuff for cats all over the internet lately. You know, it’s supposed to be like catnip, but even better? My cat, Whiskers, he’s a picky little guy. He kinda likes catnip, but not as much as other cats seem to. So I thought, “Why not give this silvervine a shot?”
First, I hopped online, and typed “silvervine for cats” into the search bar. A whole bunch of options popped up, but mostly on this big online store place, it had a ton of different brands and types. It was like, sticks, powders, even these weird fruit things. It was a little overwhelming, to be honest.

I read a few product descriptions. Some said “organic,” some said “all-natural.” Then I looked at the prices – some were like, $6.99, others were more like $16.88. All that was kind of crazy for some plant thing that cats just chew on, right?
Making My Choice
After browsing for a while, I decided to go with the silvervine sticks. They seemed like the easiest thing to give Whiskers. Plus, they were in the middle, price-wise, not the cheapest, not the most expensive.
The Experiment Begins
The package arrived a few days later. I opened it up, and it was just a bunch of these thin, woody sticks. They didn’t really smell like anything to me. I picked one out and gave it to Whiskers. He sniffed it, gave it a little lick, and then… BAM! He went nuts!
He started rolling around on the floor, rubbing his face on the stick, batting it around with his paws. He was even purring up a storm! It was way more intense than his reaction to catnip ever was. It was a hoot to watch, for real.
The Aftermath
This whole crazy playtime lasted for about 20-30 minutes, just like the website said it would. After that, Whiskers just chilled out, all relaxed and sleepy. He seemed pretty content, though. So now I just give him a stick every few days.
I did read somewhere that you shouldn’t give it to them too often, or they might get used to it and it won’t work as well. I just put them away after he’s done playing. All in all, it was a fun little experiment. Whiskers definitely seems to enjoy the silvervine, maybe even more than catnip. If your cat’s not that into catnip, or you just want to give them a new treat, I’d say give silvervine a try. It’s pretty entertaining, at least!
- Pros:
- My cat loved it more than catnip.
- Easy to use (just give them a stick).
- Not too expensive.
- Fun to watch!
- Cons:
- Can be a bit messy (they chew on the sticks).
- Effects wear off after about 30 minutes.
- Might not work for all cats.
So, yeah, that’s my silvervine story. It’s definitely worth a try if you’re looking to spice up your cat’s playtime!
