So, I’ve always been a cat person, and I’ve had my eye on Russian Blues for a while now. They’re just so darn beautiful with their silvery coats and those striking green eyes. I finally decided to take the plunge and start my own little Russian Blue cattery.
First things first, I did a ton of research. I mean, I read everything I could find about Russian Blues, from their history to their temperament. These cats are known for being independent and smart, which I love. It’s a rare breed in the U.S. and Canada, so I knew I was getting into something special. I also learned that they can be a bit pricey, with prices ranging from $800 to $2,000, depending on the lineage.
Once I felt confident in my knowledge, I started looking for a suitable location. I needed a space that was quiet, comfortable, and had plenty of room for the cats to play. After a few weeks of searching, I found the perfect spot – a cozy little house with a big backyard. Perfect for my future feline friends!
Next up, finding my breeding cats. This was probably the most important step. I wanted to make sure I got healthy, well-socialized cats from reputable breeders. I spent hours on the phone, interviewing breeders and learning about their practices. I finally settled on a couple of breeders who impressed me with their dedication to the breed. They’re super particular about genetics, vaccinations, and all that good stuff.
Once I brought my beautiful Russian Blues home, the real work began. I set up their living space, complete with scratching posts, comfy beds, and plenty of toys. I made sure they had high-quality food and fresh water at all times. These cats deserve the best, and they had to eat well-balanced meals! Litter boxes? Check. Toys? Double check.
Then came the kittens! Oh boy, was that an experience. Watching those little furballs grow and develop was incredible. I made sure they were well-socialized, spending hours playing with them and getting them used to human interaction. It’s important that they are friendly and comfortable around people. It was really important to me to make sure these kittens were happy and healthy.
Now, my cattery is up and running, and I’m so proud of what I’ve accomplished. It’s been a lot of work, but it’s all been worth it. These cats are not just my business, they’re my passion. The work was tough and there were definitely moments I doubted myself.
Seeing my healthy, happy Russian Blue kittens go to loving homes makes all the hard work worthwhile. It’s truly a rewarding experience, watching them thrive and bring joy to their new families.
