Alright, folks, gather ’round. Today, I’m gonna share my little adventure with a Corgi Terrier mix. I’ve always been a dog person, you know? But this one, this mix, it’s something else.
So, I decided it was time to get a furry companion. Not just any dog, I wanted something special. I did some searching and came across the “Corgi Terrier” mix. The description mentioned, “Corgis are undeniably adorable with their stubby legs, perky ears, and big personalities. But when mixed with other breeds, their charm reaches a whole new level.” Sounded intriguing, right?

I went ahead and adopted one. Best decision ever. The adoption center said they are usually loyal, friendly, and loving dogs that make great family pets. It’s true, they do. But, let me tell you, they’ve got energy for days. They’re like little, fluffy, four-legged balls of energy. “Originally serving as herders for livestock, they have translated that temperament into a very playful and outgoing personality which makes them a great companion.”
- First thing I did? Took him to the park.
- Second thing? Watched him zoom around like a little rocket.
- Third thing? Tried to keep up. Failed. These guys are fast.
Now, the Terrier part, that’s where it gets interesting. I read somewhere that “Terriers tend to be very headstrong and independent, with a stronger prey drive and a very alert nature.” And they bark. Oh boy, do they bark. “Must love barking in most cases.” They were not kidding about that part. Every little thing, and there’s a bark. My mix is alert, very alert. “Their alert nature and fixation can often lead to some degree of reactivity,” the article said. I noticed some leash reactivity, a bit of barrier reactivity, you name it.
Training Time
So, training, that was a whole other adventure. We started with the basics, sit, stay, come. He got ‘sit’ pretty quick, ‘stay’ was a bit more challenging, and ‘come’… well, let’s just say he comes when he feels like it. We’re working on it. “Terrier dogs are a high-energy group. Many of them are playful, affectionate, and love physical activity whenever they can get it.” That’s the truth. Every day is like a mini-marathon with this little guy.
We enrolled in some training classes. I figured some professional help wouldn’t hurt. The trainer was great, gave me some good tips. We worked on managing that energy, that reactivity. It’s a work in progress, but we’re getting there. One step at a time.
Life with a Corgi Terrier Mix
Living with him is never dull. Every day is a new adventure. We go for walks, play in the yard, work on training, and, of course, deal with the occasional barking spree. But, you know what? I wouldn’t trade it for anything. He’s my little buddy, my furry companion.
It’s been a wild ride, lots of ups and downs, lots of laughs, and a few headaches. But, that’s life with a Corgi Terrier mix. And, I’m here for it, all of it. “If you’re considering adding a terrier to your family.” I’d say go for it. Just be ready for a whole lot of energy, a whole lot of personality, and a whole lot of love.
So, that’s my story, my experience with my Corgi Terrier mix. It’s real, it’s raw, and it’s ours. Hope you enjoyed the ride. And, who knows, maybe it’ll inspire some of you to take the plunge and welcome one of these little dynamos into your life.
