Well, let me tell ya, this cat litter stuff, it can be a real bother. I ain’t no doctor, but I’ve seen folks gettin’ all sorts of sniffly and sneezy around it. It’s like, one minute you’re fine, the next you’re all itchy-eyed and wheezin’ like an old bellows.
First off, you start coughin’. Not just a little cough, mind you, but a real chest-rattlin’ cough. The kind that makes you sound like a sick donkey. And then the sneezin’ starts. “Ah-choo! Ah-choo!” You can’t stop it! It’s like your nose is tryin’ to launch itself into outer space.

And the eyes! Oh, the eyes! They get all red and watery, like you’ve been cryin’ over spilled milk. Itchy too, real itchy. You just wanna rub and rub ’em, but that don’t do no good. Makes it worse, if you ask me.
Some folks, they get a rash too. Little red bumps all over their skin. Looks awful uncomfortable, like a bunch of fire ants bit ya all at once. And some, they get to wheezin’. That’s the worst, I reckon. Makes it hard to breathe, like you got a weight sittin’ on your chest.
Now, I heard tell some cat litters are worse than others. Them dusty ones, they’re the devil, I say. All that dust flyin’ around, it gets right up your nose and into your lungs. Makes you cough and sneeze somethin’ fierce. So, if you’re one of them allergy folks, you gotta be careful. Look for the “low dust” kind, they say. Though, I reckon they all got some dust, ain’t no way around it.
- Coughin’ like a sick donkey.
- Sneezin’ your head off.
- Eyes gettin’ red and itchy and watery.
- Rashes poppin’ up all over.
- Wheezin’ like an old steam engine.
It ain’t always right away neither. Sometimes it takes a bit for them symptoms to show up. You might be playin’ with your kitty all mornin’, feelin’ fine as can be, and then bam! You’re hit with the itchies and sneezies in the afternoon. It’s sneaky, like a fox in a henhouse.
Now, if you’re thinkin’ you might be allergic to that cat litter, you should go see a doctor. Don’t just sit there sufferin’. They can do some tests, figure out what’s wrong with ya. And maybe they can give you some medicine to make you feel better. Or maybe they’ll tell you to get different litter. Who knows? I ain’t no doctor!
And it ain’t just the cat litter itself, sometimes. That stuff can get all sorts of nasty things growin’ in it. Bacteria and other little critters, you know? And them things can make you sick too. So, you gotta keep that litter box clean. Scoop it out every day, they say. And change the whole thing regular-like. Don’t let it sit there gettin’ all nasty. That’s just askin’ for trouble.
Bottom line is, if you’re feelin’ poorly around your cat’s litter box, don’t ignore it. It ain’t natural to be coughin’ and sneezin’ and itchin’ all the time. Go get yourself checked out. And maybe try different kinds of litter. There’s all sorts of stuff out there now. Corn, paper, wood chips… you name it. Maybe you can find somethin’ that don’t make you feel like you swallowed a dust bunny.

And keep that litter box clean! That’s the most important thing, I reckon. Nobody wants to live in a house that smells like a cat toilet. And it ain’t good for your health neither. So, scoop that poop, folks! And keep them allergies at bay.
