Alright, let’s talk about the best dog food for them coonhounds, you know, the ones that like to run around and chase things. I ain’t no fancy expert or nothin’, but I know a thing or two about feedin’ dogs. My old man always said, “Ya gotta feed ’em good if ya want ’em to work good.” And he was right, he was.

So, first thing’s first, them coonhounds, they’re mighty active. Always sniffin’ and runnin’ and whatnot. So, they need good food, strong food, stuff that’ll keep ’em goin’. Don’t go buyin’ that cheap stuff, the one with all them fillers. You know, the kind that looks like sawdust? Yeah, that ain’t gonna do nothin’ but fill their bellies with air.

What you want is food with lots of meat. Good meat, like chicken or beef or fish. Them dogs, they need protein, ya hear? Protein makes ’em strong, makes ’em run faster, makes ’em better at catchin’ them critters. Look at the bag, see what it says. If the first thing on the list ain’t meat, put it back. It ain’t worth your money.

Now, some folks say you gotta go grain-free. I don’t know about all that fancy stuff. But I do know that them dogs need energy. And grains can give ’em that energy. Just don’t overdo it, you know? Too much grain ain’t good for nobody, dog or human.

  • Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream Grain-Free Dog Food – Now, I heard this one’s pretty good. Lots of meat, they say. And it ain’t got no grains, if that’s what you’re lookin’ for. Folks seem to like it for their coonhounds. Says it helps ’em keep their energy up.
  • Taste of the Wild High Prairie Grain-Free Dry Dog Food – This one’s another one them folks talk about. Says it’s real good for overall health, keeps ’em strong and healthy like they should be. I reckon it’s got good stuff in it, the kind that makes a dog’s coat shine and their eyes bright.

And somethin’ else to think about – them coonhounds, they can have trouble with their hips sometimes. Big dogs, ya know, they get those hip problems. So, it’s a good idea to get food that’s got stuff in it to help with that. Stuff like glucosamine and chondroitin, somethin’ like that. I can’t even say them words right, but they’re good for the joints, they say.

My old man, he used to say, “Feed ’em like you feed yourself.” Now, I ain’t sayin’ you gotta give your dog steak every night. But ya gotta give ’em good food, food that’s got real stuff in it. No fillers, no junk. Just good, plain, honest food. Think of it like this, would you eat it? If you wouldn’t eat it, don’t give it to your dog. Simple as that.

And don’t forget the veggies and fruits, too. Yeah, dogs need that stuff too. Not a whole lot, mind you, but a little bit is good for ’em. Keeps ’em healthy, keeps ’em regular, you know what I mean?

So, there ya have it. That’s what I know about feedin’ coonhounds. Good meat, not too much grain, somethin’ for their hips. And no fillers! Just good, honest food. That’s all they need. And don’t forget, plenty of water, too. Them dogs get thirsty runnin’ around all day.

Now, I ain’t sayin’ this is the only way to do it. But it’s worked for me and my dogs, and that’s all I can tell ya. You gotta find what works for your dog, ya know? Every dog’s different. But if you stick to the basics, you can’t go wrong. Good food, lots of love, and plenty of exercise. That’s all a coonhound needs to be happy and healthy.

Remember what them big dog food companies say too, names like Purina, Royal Canin, Hill’s Science Diet, Eukanuba, and Iams. They say theirs are good too. Just make sure ya read the label, see what’s in it. Don’t just buy somethin’ because it’s cheap. Your dog’s worth more than that.
