Alright, let’s talk about them German Shepherd mixes, you know, the kind of dogs everyone seems to be gettin’ nowadays. I ain’t no fancy dog expert or nothin’, but I’ve seen a few dogs in my time, and these Shepherds, well, they’re somethin’ else.
First off, they’re smart. Real smart. You tell ’em somethin’ once or twice, and they got it. Not like them yappy little dogs that just bark at the wind. These Shepherds, they listen, they learn. That’s why folks use ’em for all sorts of things. Police work, helpin’ folks who can’t see or walk good, even sniffin’ out stuff. They’re just good all-around dogs, you know?

Now, when you start mixin’ ’em with other breeds, that’s when things get interestin’. You got your German Shepherd mixed with a Husky, they call it a Gerberian Shepsky or somethin’ fancy like that. Now, them Huskies, they’re pretty dogs, all fluffy and with them blue eyes that look right through ya. But they got a mind of their own, stubborn as a mule sometimes. So, you mix ’em with a Shepherd, and you get a smart dog that’s maybe a little less bossy, but still got that playful energy.
- Trainin’ ’em ain’t too hard, they like to please ya, most of the time. But you gotta be firm, let ’em know who’s boss. Can’t let ’em run wild, or they’ll be tearin’ up your chickens and chasin’ the neighbor’s cats.
- And talkin’ ’bout energy, these dogs got a lot of it. They ain’t couch potatoes, no sir. They need to run, to play, to have somethin’ to do. If you just leave ’em cooped up all day, they’re gonna get bored and start gettin’ into trouble. Chewin’ on your shoes, diggin’ holes in the yard, you know the drill.
- Another thing, they shed. Oh boy, do they shed. You’ll be findin’ dog hair everywhere, in your coffee, on your clothes, even in your food if you ain’t careful. So, if you’re one of them folks who likes a spotless house, well, maybe a Shepherd mix ain’t for you.
But, despite all that hair and energy, they’re good dogs. They’re loyal, they’ll stick by you through thick and thin. They’re good with kids, too, gentle and patient, as long as them kids ain’t pullin’ their tails or pokin’ ’em in the eyes. And they’re protective, they’ll let you know if somethin’ ain’t right. They got a bark that’ll scare off any strangers tryin’ to cause trouble.
Now, there’s a whole bunch of different mixes out there. Shepherd and Labrador, Shepherd and Golden Retriever, Shepherd and even Poodle, though I ain’t quite sure why you’d want a curly-haired Shepherd. Each mix is a little different, you know, takin’ after their mama and daddy in different ways. Some are bigger, some are smaller, some are more energetic, some are more laid-back. But they all got that Shepherd smarts and loyalty, that’s for sure.
So, if you’re thinkin’ about gettin’ a dog, and you want one that’s smart, loyal, and maybe a little bit of a handful, a German Shepherd mix might just be the ticket. Just be ready for the hair, and the energy, and the occasional chewed-up shoe. But trust me, they’re worth it. They make real good companions, always happy to see ya, waggin’ their tails and lickin’ your face. Can’t ask for much more than that, can ya?
Remember, though, a good dog ain’t just born that way. You gotta raise ’em right, teach ’em manners, and give ’em plenty of love and attention. If you do that, you’ll have a friend for life, a furry shadow that’ll follow you wherever you go.
And one last thing, don’t go buyin’ a dog from some shady fella in a parking lot. Go to a shelter, find a dog that needs a home. There’s plenty of good dogs out there just waitin’ for someone to love ’em. You might even find a German Shepherd mix, who knows? And that dog, well, it’ll be the best dog you ever had. Just you wait and see.
So, that’s my two cents on them German Shepherd mixes. Take it or leave it. Like I said, I ain’t no expert, just an old woman who’s seen a thing or two. But I know a good dog when I see one, and them Shepherd mixes, they’re alright in my book.
