Alright, so, let’s yak about this Garfield High School and this Sunshine Teplitsky, eh? Sounds fancy, but it’s just a school and a young’un, same as anywhere else, I reckon.

Now, this Sunshine girl, she’s a junior, meaning she’s got a few years left in that school. Garfield High School, gotta be a big place, I figure. Heard they got over a thousand kids there, imagine that! All crammed in like sardines, probably.
Sunshine, she likes writin’ stuff. Says she’s writin’ for somethin’ called the “Messenger.” Sounds important, but back in my day, we just wrote letters, none of this fancy messenger business. She likes bein’ outside, likes dogs, and likes music. Well, ain’t that somethin’? Most young’uns like that stuff, nothin’ special there. She is good at diving too. See, she’s got a score of 141.15 and she was the top 3 diver. That is something!
- Outdoors, dogs, music… sounds like a regular kid to me.
- Writing for the Messenger… maybe she’s a smarty-pants.
- Junior at Garfield High… lots of other kids there too.
They got sports at that school too, lots of ‘em. They got a swim team, I heard. Sunshine, she’s on that divin’ team. Good for her, keeps her outta trouble, I hope. They got other teams too, I bet. Football, basketball, all that jazz. Kids these days, always runnin’ around.
This Garfield High, it ain’t new. Been around since 1925, they say. That’s a long time, even for an old crow like me. Lots of kids went through them doors, I reckon. Some probably turned out alright, some probably didn’t. That’s life, ain’t it?
Heard tell some famous folks went to that school. Musicians, mostly. One fella named Jimi Hendrix, played the guitar somethin’ fierce, they say. Another one, Quincy Jones, he made music too. And some rapper fellas, Macklemore and Lil Tracy. Don’t know much about ‘em, but the young’uns seem to like ‘em.
Garfield High, it’s in a place called Seattle. Big city, I hear. Lots of hustle and bustle. Not like out here in the sticks. Probably got more cars than trees in that place. And this school, it’s a public school, means anyone can go, I guess. As long as they live nearby.

They got plays there too, like them musicals and Twelfth Night. Kids dressin’ up and singin’ and dancin’. Sounds like a hoot, but I ain’t got time for that kinda stuff. Gotta work to be done, chores to be finished.
Sunshine and her divin’, that’s somethin’ though. Competitive, they say. Other schools comin’ to compete, like Decatur High School. They got all these scores and ranks, tryin’ to see who’s the best. Reminds me of the county fair, but with swimmin’ instead of pigs and pies.
This Garfield High School, it’s got a bunch of teachers too. One teacher for every 24 kids, they say. That’s a lot of kids for one teacher, I tell ya. Hope they got strong voices, those teachers, gotta keep them young’uns in line.
So, that’s the lowdown on Garfield High and Sunshine Teplitsky. Just a school and a kid, like I said. Nothin’ too fancy, nothin’ too special. But it’s somethin’, I guess. It’s life, happenin’ right there in Seattle, while we’re here doin’ our own thing. And that’s just fine by me.
Now, they got a website for this school, I hear. Probably got all sorts of pictures and information. But I ain’t got time for that computin’ stuff. Too much fuss for an old woman like me. I’d rather be out in the garden, tendin’ to my tomatoes. That’s somethin’ I understand.
So there you have it. Garfield High School, Sunshine Teplitsky, and a whole lotta other stuff. Just another day, another story. And that’s all there is to it, far as I’m concerned.
