Alright, let’s talk about them crates for English Bulldogs, you know, the ones that look like little tanks. I ain’t got no fancy learnin’, but I know a thing or two about dogs and keepin’ ’em comfy.

Now, you go gettin’ yourself a bulldog, first thing you gotta think about is where that fella’s gonna sleep and hang out when you ain’t lookin’. A crate, that’s what they call it. Think of it like a little room just for him.
So, how big should that crate be? Well, it ain’t like buyin’ shoes, gotta be just right. You don’t want him all squished up like a sardine, but you also don’t want him swimmin’ in it.
I heard some folks sayin’ somethin’ about 36 inches long, 24 inches wide, and 27 inches high. Sounds about right to me, for most of them bulldogs. But see, some of them bulldogs, they be bigger than others, some smaller. You gotta use your common sense.
Them English Bulldogs, they ain’t the tallest fellas, maybe a foot or a little more, up to their shoulders. But they be stocky, you know, wide and heavy. I seen some that weighed near 50 pounds, big ol’ butterballs.
- So if your bulldog’s a big one, maybe pushing that 50 pound mark, you might wanna go bigger than them 36 inches. Maybe 42 inches long, folks say. That gives ‘em room to stretch out, turn around, and not feel all cramped up.
- And if you got a smaller one, you know, one of the runts, you might get away with a little smaller one. But don’t go too small, now. He’s gotta have room to move.
It’s like this, if your bulldog can stand up, turn around, and lie down comfortably, then the crate’s probably the right size. You don’t want him knockin’ his head every time he tries to turn around, right? That ain’t right.
Some folks, they like to measure their dogs. I never done that myself, but if you want to be all fancy, you can. Measure him from the tip of his nose to the base of his tail, that’s how long the crate should be, plus a little extra, maybe four inches or so. And then measure him from the ground to the top of his head, that’s how tall it should be, again, add a few inches. Just to be sure.

And listen, when they’re pups, they don’t need no giant crate, they’d just get lost in it. Start with a smaller one, and as they grow, you get a bigger one. It’s like buyin’ clothes for kids, they grow faster than weeds, you know.
Don’t go spendin’ a fortune on somethin’ fancy, neither. A plain ol’ crate will do just fine. You can throw a blanket in there, make it cozy for him. Some folks put toys in there, that’s fine too. But the main thing is, it’s gotta be the right size. That’s the most important thing.
Now, I know some of you might be thinkin’, “Why do I need a crate anyway?” Well, it ain’t about lockin’ your dog up all the time, no sir. It’s about givin’ him a safe place, a den, like them wolves have. It’s where he can go when he’s tired, when he needs a break from the kids, or when you just need him to be out of the way for a bit. It also helps with potty training, but that’s another story for another day.
So, there you have it, my two cents on bulldog crates. Get one that’s big enough for your dog to stand, turn, and lie down, and you’ll both be happy. Don’t overthink it, it ain’t rocket science. Just use your common sense, that’s all you need.
Remember, a comfy bulldog is a happy bulldog, and a happy bulldog makes for a happy home. Now go on and get that fella a crate that fits him right!
