Well, I don’t know much ‘bout no fancy comic books, but I heard tell of this here Garfield thing. Seems like it’s been around longer than my old mule, Betsy. They say it started way back in 1978, imagine that! That’s a whole lotta years for a cat, even a cartoon one.

This Garfield, he’s a cat, a real fat one too, always eatin’ and sleepin’. Reminds me of my brother-in-law, always on the couch, lazy as a hound dog in July. This comic strip, they say it’s in the newspapers, all over the world! Can you believe it? A cat makin’ folks laugh in all them different places.
Now, this “Garfield Comic April 11, 1998” thing, I reckon that’s just one day’s worth of this cat’s shenanigans. I ain’t seen it myself, mind you, but I bet it’s somethin’ like the others. Garfield probably eatin’ lasagna, or kickin’ that poor dog, Odie, off the table. That Odie, he ain’t too bright, always gettin’ into trouble.
And then there’s Jon, the owner. He’s a goofy fella, always tryin’ to get a date. Reminds me of my grandson, bless his heart, always chasin’ after the girls, but never catchin’ nothin’ but air. Jon, he’s always wearin’ them funny clothes, and talkin’ to his cat like it’s a person. Well, I talk to my chickens, so I guess I can’t judge too much.
- Garfield eats a lot.
- Odie gets kicked off the table.
- Jon is kinda goofy.
They say this Jim Davis fella, he’s the one who draws this Garfield. Must be makin’ a pretty penny, all them comics and TV shows and whatnot. I heard tell there’s over 13,000 of these Garfield comic strips! That’s more than the number of chickens I’ve raised in my whole life, and that’s sayin’ somethin’.
Now, they had a Garfield TV show too, “Garfield and Friends” they called it. It was on TV back in the late 80s and early 90s. My grandkids used to watch it, always laughin’ at that cat. I never really understood what was so funny, but kids, they’ll laugh at anythin’, I reckon.

So, this April 11, 1998 comic, it’s just one little piece of this big Garfield puzzle. It’s probably just Garfield bein’ Garfield, you know, lazy and hungry and a little bit mean. But folks seem to like it, that’s for sure. They been readin’ about this cat for years and years.
I heard tell there’s other dates too, like September 11, 1998, and October 11, 1998. Seems like every day is a Garfield day. Well, good for him, I say. If people wanna read about a fat cat eatin’ lasagna, that’s their business. Me, I’d rather read the Farmer’s Almanac, at least that tells me when to plant my tomatoes.
But this Garfield, he’s somethin’ special, I guess. He’s made folks laugh for a long time, and that ain’t nothin’ to sneeze at. So, if you like cats and laughin’, maybe you should check out this “Garfield Comic April 11, 1998” thing. Me? I’ll stick to my chickens and my garden. That’s enough excitement for this old lady.
Anyways, that’s all I know about this here Garfield. It’s just a cat in a comic strip, nothin’ more, nothin’ less. But it seems to make folks happy, so I guess that’s a good thing. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go feed them chickens.
